A trust fund has been established at Frost National Bank for the family of Herlinda Vela and her 1-year-old son, Elijah, who were killed in a two-vehicle accident May 25 in Sutherland Springs.

Vela, 23, of Stockdale, and her son were killed when the car Vela was driving, a Honda sedan, collided head-on with a Nissan Pathfinder. Four other people, including Elijah’s father, were injured and transported to area hospitals.

Trustees of the account are Thom and Dennis Reynolds of Reynolds Nationwide, located on U.S. 87 in San Antonio.

Vela’s mother, Sami Flores, is a longtime employee at Reynolds. Vela also worked for the trucking company part time for many years.

“Due to the nature of the accident, the family will face enormous expenses,” Thom Reynolds said. “Any amount will be helpful and there is no minimum required. If you prefer, your donation can remain anonymous.”

Donations may be made directly to the bank by specifying Account No. 61-4176685. If paid by check, it should be payable to the “Herlinda Vela and Elijah Trae Vela Trust.”
